Decision Making Technique with Internet Reference Free Essays
The Decision Technique I chose to write about is the ââ¬Å"Six Thinking Hats ââ¬â Looking at a Decision from all Points of View.â⬠This technique was created by Dr. Edward de Bono. We will write a custom essay sample on Decision Making Technique with Internet Reference or any similar topic only for you Order Now Dr. Bono is regarded as the leading international authority in conceptual and creative thinking and in the teaching of thinking as a skill. Of all the decision making technique I researched, this is the one that I agreed with the most in regards to the situation that I had in mind when researching decision making skills. This technique was very interesting to me because it made you look at a problem from all points of view. You could not be biased on one opinion or force of influence. It forced you to think outside the box. When making a decision, I feel that you must look at the issue from all points of view and not just your own biases or emotions. At times making a decision can be very hard, especially when you are the supervisor and responsible for your department. When both the decision and outcome it may have will ultimately affect you and your department and add the fact that you are the one that has to answer to higher authority. This is why I really think this technique is great because you incorporate how it will affect everyone around you from the employee to higher management. How this decision making technique works is that there are literally six hat you wear and each hat has a different way of thinking. For example: the first hat you wear is the ââ¬Å"White Hat.â⬠This hat allows you to focus on data and/or information. This is where you identify the problem or issue with the information you have by researching the information. The second hat you wear once you have the problem is the ââ¬Å"Red Hat.â⬠This is where you bring in the human in yourself and others. By realizing your intuition, reflex reaction and/or emotions. You also allow others to come in by realizing how they will react to the issue, how they will feel, how they will want to handle it, etc. This is a very important step in decision making because no matter what you chose to do this is the step that will make you or break you, in my opinion. This is where you will get your decision across to others by considering their reaction/emotions as well. The next hat that will be worn will be the ââ¬Å"Black Hat.â⬠Just as the color is stereo typed as ââ¬Å"badâ⬠this is where you think of all the negative reactions and how your decision will not work. This is where you analyze the issue and your decision and see where the mistakes are in your decision. This is also an important step as you consider the impact of your decision and the ââ¬Å"what ifs.â⬠The next hat is the ââ¬Å"Yellow Hat.â⬠Like a beautiful day when the sun is out and the weather is great to be outdoors and it is your day off. This is where you think optimistically and you see the good in your decision, which is a great step from coming out of the ââ¬Å"Black Hat.â⬠The next hat is the ââ¬Å"Green Hat.â⬠This is the step that you take off on. Your have already looked at the bad side and good side of your decision. This is where you get to be creative and brainstorm your decision and/or ideas. You are free at this point to write down all your ideas with no one to stop you. Finally, the last hat is the ââ¬Å"Blue Hat.â⬠Not because you are blue as in sad, because the ideas are not coming out as freely or when there is a back up plan needed. Those you are presenting the decision to usually wear this hat. Blue is neither good nor bad but can lead you back to the green hat or when you need a back-up plan which will send you back to the Black Hat. Because the organization I work for deals a lot with the public investigating, the dress code is an important issue. Recently in our organization this topic came up and it was addressed in a more formal way than usual. What was sent to everyone via the email was an explanation of why a Dress Code was being presented along with a List of What is permissible and not permissible to wear. The reason I feel that the ââ¬Å"Six Hatâ⬠Technique would have been very useful in this situation is because I do not think that whomever made the decision of what was allowed to be worn or not considered otherââ¬â¢s opinions or forces of influence. The list of what is allowed to be worn or not could be based on a personââ¬â¢s perception, depending on which side of the fence you were on. They left it open for scrutiny and conflict among employees and supervisors. By using the ââ¬Å"Six Hats Technique, it would of allowed those in command to bring into the decisions making the employees that this issue will affect as well as their perception or biases in regards to the list of clothes. It would of allowed them to think the process more thoroughly as it is very hard to have a dress code with a diverse culture in our organization. To speak on behalf of the Dress Code Committee, it is very hard to try to please everyone. I feel that neither this decision making technique or any other technique used would of produced the perfect Dress Code List that would please everyone. This is one of those situations that you acknowledge you will be open to a lot of criticism. Because there is such diversity in culture, age, religious backgrounds etc., the perfect Dress Code List does not exist. Whatever technique was used in this decision making issue I feel was the best that they could do. Perhaps they should sign up for this course and learn how to frame the problem and learn to use better decision making techniques when making such an important decision that affects so many employees. The duties should be properly allocated especially to those who are looking after the eBusiness side of the Samsung Medical Center. Dr. Smart S The future: A cell phone application developed by SMC named "Dr. Smart S," is conveyed in the clinical environment of the medical center. SMC has stepped in the future by introducing a whole new dimension in medical world through Dr. Smart S. Dr. Smart S was introduced by SMC in August, 2003. Around then, it was uncommon for a medical center to present "Zone service" through cell phones as a feature of FMC (Fixed mobile Coverage). The first application was developed to run on Palm OS (an old operating system), the then mobile operating system as adopted by Samsung. "SCH-M3300." Since then the application has been modified and updated 3 times. The first update was a change of platform from Palm OS to windows operating system. The latest update has been made by restructuring the application for Android smartphones. Samsung medical center (SMC) named the application as Dr. Smart S. The application contains all the information such as data of inpatient, outpatient, a patient at operation room and pa tient at the emergency room, patients list waiting to admit and consultation notes. This is all the information Doctors want to know and for which they have to visit each room and each operation center. The three major components of Dr. Smart S are Terminal Network infrastructure Server group A terminal is a sort of smart phone which can run the downloaded applications on OS. SMC (Samsung Medical Center) has used Samsung Galaxy S as terminal that loads Dr. Smart S to run on Google Android. (Salehi et al. 2012) The application was developed using Eclipse IDE. SMC is taking advantage from both wireless and wired systems as network framework. The end point connected cordlessly by the terminal is Aruba Access Point (AP-70, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g). The wired is made out of backbone switch (10 Gb/s) at computer room, distribution switch (1 Gb/s) from the computer room to each floor, and workgroup switch (100 Mb/s) at each floor. The major component of a server group is a mobile server which recovers information from the legacy (Barati et al. 2016) framework and gives them to the terminal. The legacy system stores all the result of transactions using SIMS by responding mobile server's request. OS and database management system (DBMS) on the mobile server are Windows Server 2003 and M ySQL 5 respectively. The development tool used for mobile server software module was NetBeans 6.0. The legacy system uses HP (Hewlett-Packard) integrity Superdome as hardware, HP-Unix 11.23 as Operating system, middleware is TMAX 4.0 and for Database management system it is Oracle 10g respectively. Usability of dr. Smart s: To use Dr. Smart S. on a smartphone, the app has to be downloaded from Play Store. After downloading the app, you have to register yourself with authentic information. The encrypted user ID and Password are then transferred to the mobile server using wireless connectivity. The user will be connected to the mobile server even if the user doesnt know network preferences. The authentication process consists of two levels using MAC address of terminals as compared with information provided by the legacy system with users ID and password check. The two level authentication processes are specially designed for confidentiality of patients data even if the phone is lost. A further added feature is the limited access to the users according to their designation. According to the SMC (Samsung medical Center) policy, the user will automatically be disconnected from the server if the system detects no user activity for some time. SMC (Samsung Medical Center) has installed cordless network AP at e ach floor, cafeteria, lobby and other places which doctors usually visit. Balancing online and offline promotion: In the past few years, Internet marketing has emerged drastically. Organizations are now able to communicate with more people, monitor their competitors, and get feedback from clients. Both online and offline marketing have advantages and disadvantages. As a business owner, it is necessary to figure out how to balance both online and offline promotion methods. For an organization, its difficult to manage both online and offline promotion methods. The site URL is available on every brochure and awareness paper published by SMC. Business Strategy In spite of the experience, it is conceivable to convert procedures and strategies into individual activities, for an effective business performance. But it is not easy to achieve. Many organizations over and again neglect to motivate its employees and clients to work with enthusiasm, all together, for the prosperity of the organization. (Habibi et al. 2015) Most organizations and associations know their business, and the techniques required for the achievement. The essential elements to draw a strategy are: Motivational leadership: Solely focuses on achieving sustained performance through value-based leadership, personal growth, and planning by efficiently recognizing human dynamics. People look towards their leader for guidance. Leadership is the core element in transforming strategy into results. Effective leadership always makes a difference in determining the path of an organization. The productivity of a company is dependent on the internal infrastructure which includes every aspect like ethical and moral behavior, working standards and environment. Strategy into Action: Strategy in action planning is a staged methodology highlighting the performance, connecting strategic measures to the departmental, project and singular action. (Forro et al. 2015) The main objective is to empower the organization to adequately decipher strategies through to results carried under a clear and effective process. Including the right individuals is fundamental to make right choices on priorities, and making action plans that are aligned and clear. Performance Management: Performance management is the development of hierarchical procedures and abilities important to accomplish results through individuals delivering adequate results. To draw an efficient strategy in papers is quite ravishing but implementing those strategies in real time is often hectic. (Malmstrom et al. 2013) Most of the organizations have excellent strategies but poor implementation. Performance Management is a key component in getting the entire association adjusted and assembled to achieve goals and work cooperatively together to deliver expected results. The increase in performance management is empowered utilizing IT system. Legal And Ethical Issues Health care is an unpredictable domain where the health experts work with numerous regulations, laws and standards of practice. Doctors have to make difficult choices keeping both ethical and moral aspects in mind. Numerous moral situations emerge when a choice must be made to kill life-support machines and permit death to occur to a patient. Other common moral and ethical issues, a health care expert may face, are privacy, matters related to consent of the patient and relationships with patients, particularly while treating the minors. (Chaffey et al. 2012) Confidentiality Confidentiality is both, a lawful and a moral issue. Keeping data around a patient confidential is a way of showing regard for the self-respect of patients, while disclosing patient's data can affect the patient. There are specific laws related to the the release of patient's data under the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). The laws characterize precisely what data can be discharged and to whom under what circumstances. As the Insurance policy might not be allowed to view patients data while a person that have direct impact of patients health might be allowed to have direct access of data. If there's some risk to a third party involved, a moral and ethical medical professional might have to break the confidentiality to prevent any harm. Relationships: Relationship with any patient, especially sexual connection, are categorized illegal by both the medical and nursing code of morals. (Simmons Conlon 2013) Such activities are viewed as unhealthy and misconduct that might bring about suspension from the institution and lose the license to practice medicine. A sexual relationship with any under treatment patient thought to be a misuse of force with respect to the doctor or medical attendant, as patients are reliant and helpless. (Foerster 2015) A sexual association with a patient can be exceptionally unsafe, and a moral specialist will stay away from the patient even in the presence of sexual enthusiasm for a patient. Malpractice: Many health care professionals face the risk of being suspended for malpractice. A claim might be damage from a damage identified with surgery, defective equipment or use of inadequate medical products. (Schilsky 2013) The danger of lawsuit is the end goal that numerous social insurance experts practice defensive medicine such as requesting a test or performing a procedure to guarantee that the patient can't allege carelessness. Consent An informed consent must be provided by the patient for treatment to be lawful. Any operation performed by doctors without legitimate consent is categorized as assault. When treating an adolescent, the medical proficient faces a clash of morals and ethics under specific circumstances. (Eid El-Gohary 2013) The expert may trust that guardians ought to be kept informed of their child's health issue. Conclusion: Strategy Evaluation is as significant as the formulation of strategy since it defines the proficiency and adequacy of the comprehensive plans to achieve the expected outputs. The authorities can also survey suitability of the current procedure in dynamic world with political, financial and technological advancements. Strategic evaluation is the last step of strategic administration. (Michael 2014) The importance of strategic assessment is its ability to coordinate the tasks done by managers, departments, groups etc. through control of execution. Strategic evaluation is noteworthy on while considering numerous elements, such as creating contributions for a new strategic planning, an urge to review, appraisal and reward, judging the legitimacy of the strategic decision and so forth. It is a direction in which the strategy makers set the goals and numerous ways to accomplishing them. It deals with making decisions about the future bearing of an association and implementing them. It helps us in determining the path of an organization on which direction it is moving. Without any prior set of instructions to implement the strategy, a company cannot survive. Moreover, strategy evaluation is far better for running an error free operation. In fact, it is much better if the set of instructions are initially formulated. However, the strategy should be in accordance with the evaluation me thod. This is how we strategy evaluation is performed. One way or the other, such planning always helps the company to improve its operations. Importance of strategic management: Strategic management is a continuous process of assessing and controlling the business and the industries of an organization. It assesses its competitors and sets different objectives and strategies to meet all the current and potential contenders, and then reevaluate strategies to decide how it has been implemented in the system and whether it was effective and efficient or does it needs any sort of substitution. Strategic Management gives a detailed viewpoint to the workers of an organization and allow them to judge so they can better access how their job fits into the whole hierarchical organization and how it is co-identified with other authoritative individuals. (Cascino et al. 2014) Strategic management is the art of overseeing workers such that it increases the overall capacity of achieving business targets. The workers can comprehend the response of ecological changes on the association. One of the significant parts of the strategic management is to incorporate numerous functional areas of the organization and to guarantee the practical regions blending together. Another part of strategic management is to watch out for the objectives and goals of the organization. In the modern world, for the survival of an organization, it is necessary to plan the future of the organization than working on today. (Hamdan 2012) Companies like Nokia, Kodak etc. were busy in serving their clients that they forgot to formulate their future. Samsung is making sure of not becoming one of them. The sustainability Samsung Medical center (SMC) is best example to see how successfully Samsung has implemented the management strategies and set their future goals. Strategic management is an independent department where the strategies have to be formulated keeping in view the limitations of the company. In some scenarios, the management needs to be very careful about the legal and ethical obligations. In short, the strategic management is responsible to make the operations successful and it plays a very important role for the development and growth of a company. If the strategy evaluation process is properly defined then, it is easier to achieve the desired goals and objectives. In fact, the company finds the right direction and starts making progress rapidly. The importance of strategic evaluation can be assessed by looking at the infrastructure of the company. Strategies need to be formulated in a very timely manner with respect to all the legal and ethical values. Therefore, the significance of the strategic evaluation process can be explained and defined as one of the major pillars of the company. The case study above explained how scenarios vary and how they can be handled with an effective strategic evaluation process. The success and failure of a strategy is determined by the process of strategic evaluation. References Barati, M., Navid, B.J., Ghanbari, M. and Kheirollahi, F., 2016. Logue A Christmas candle is a lovely thing; it makes no noise at all, but softly gives itself away; while quite unselfish, it grows small. Burton Hillis The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: The presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.Henry Wadsworth Longfellow I heard the bells on Christmas Day / Their old, familiar carols play, and wild and sweet / The word repeat of peace on earth, good-will to men! Charles N. Barnard The perfect Christmas tree? All Christmas trees are perfect! Larry Wilde Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall. Roy L. Smith He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. Lenore Hershey Do give books- religious or otherwise- for Christmas. Theyââ¬â¢re never fattening, seldom sinful, and permanently personal. Ashley Tisdale Love Christmas, not just because of the presents but because of all the decorations and lights and the warmth of the season. Mary Ellen Chase Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind. Charles M. Schulz Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone. G. K. Chesterton When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings at Christmas time. Why are we not grateful to God for filling our stockings with legs? Peg Bracken Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingredients of a truly merry Christmas. Richard Paul Evans The smells of Christmas are the smells of childhood. Norman Vincent Peale Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. Colleges With the Lowest ACT Scores, Ranked
Colleges With the Lowest ACT Scores, Ranked SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The college application process can be stressful, but don't worry, if you hopeto attend a four-year universityand havea low ACTscore, there is quite possiblya collegefor you! In this article, I list the universitieswith the lowest 25th percentile ACTscores for their admitted students. The 25th percentile ACTscore signifiesthat 25% of admitted applicantsto the school received an ACT scoreat or below that number. The 75th percentileACTscore signifiesthat 75% ofadmitted applicantsto the school received an ACT scoreat or below that score (25% scored higher).I will also explainwhy you shouldnââ¬â¢t always judge the colleges by their low 25th/75th percentile ACT. Schools Listed in Ascending Order of 25th/75th Percentile with Admission Rate I compiled this comprehensive list through online research. I chose to organize the schoolsin ascending order by 25th percentile score (rather than the 75th percentile score) so you could see the lowest ACT scores allowed for admission to these universities: School Name 25th Percentile ACT Score 75th Percentile ACT Score Admission Rate Rust College 13 14 9% Shaw University 13 16 61% Livingstone College 13 16 72% Saint Augustines College 13 17 67% Huston-Tillotson University 13 17 46% Virginia Union University 13 17 83% Jarvis Christian College 13 18 100% Paul Quinn College 13 18 99% Cheyney University of Pennsylvania 14 16 88% Lane College 14 17 33% Chowan University 14 18 58% Paine College 14 18 44% Marygrove College 14 19 42% Johnson C.Smith University 15 19 37% Texas Southern University 15 19 45% Cal State Dominguez Hills 15 19 80% Alabama State University 15 20 54% Cal State Los Angeles 15 20 62% Mid-Atlantic Christian University 15 20 Unknown Ferrum College 15 20 74% Southern Vermont College 15 21 75% Why Are Their 25th/75th Percentiles So Low? Should You Be Concerned? There are several possibilities as to why these colleges have lower ACT score averages than other schools.A lot of the universities in this article are specialized colleges offering specific degree programs or a religious education. As such, these colleges may weight other application components more heavily than the ACT score such as artistic talent or religious involvement. For example, Mid-Atlantic Christian University says,"Student candidates who deeply desire an education from a Christian world view; yet who may not meet all of the criteria as outlined above may be admitted to the University in a provisional status and are encouraged to apply." Additionally, several of the universities above have a large difference between the 25th and 75th percentile score (some with a more than 6 point difference).Applicants whose scores were at or below the 25th percentile may have uniques reasons for being admitted such as being the child of a significant donor, a legacy, an athlete, or an exceptional talent (such as a world-renowned opera singer). However, another reason these schools accept applicants with low scores could bedue to theirhigh admission rates; these colleges need to accept morestudents to fill up theirfreshman class. A few of the abovecollegesacceptnearlyevery applicantand, therefore, will have a larger score range. You should not necessarily be concerned by a schoolââ¬â¢s low 25th/75th percentile.A low ACT average may simply suggest, as I noted above, that the college is choosing to admit students for other reasons. Many universities are no longer even asking for a standardized test score with your application. This does not mean that you should not consider attending one of these schools. All it means is that the admissions offices no longer consider standardized tests to be a good representation of your higher education potential. That being said, many of the universities listed aboveare not known for their stellar academics. If you're looking for an intellectual challenge, these probably are not the schools for you. Unfortunately, there are colleges thatonlyexist to make money, and their alumniend up with hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt. For-profit schools are typicallythe worst offenders, but some non-profit universities also have a lower quality of education and leave their alumni with few job optionsafter graduation. Make sure to choose your college carefully. When choosing where to apply, you should not necessarily take into account their ACT average, but rather you should ask yourself whether that school is right for you: What majors does it offer? Where is it located? Will I get financial aid? For help deciding where to apply to college, check out our guide to finding the right school for you. Whatââ¬â¢s next?
